Music from Wayne Shorter and his legacy like Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock and Freddie Hubbard.
A dynamic quartet of experienced international musicians from the Berlin jazz scene, together again to make a tribute to the wonderful music of legendary saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter who turned 85 this year. Expressive and Lyrical saxophonist Peter Ehwald from Germany together with refined American pianist Marque Lowenthal, swinging bassist Lars Gühlcke and groovy Italian drummer Andrea Marcelli who actually collaborated with Shorter on the album „Silent Will“.
Das Konzertprogramm ist eine außergewöhnliche Mischung aus bekannten Jazzstandards von Wayne Shorter und „his Legacy“ Horace Silver, Herbie Hancock und Freddie Hubbard.

PETER EHWALD – saxophones, studied   at the music academies in Weimar and Köln, at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at City College New York.  Rewarded with a prestigious DAAD scholarship he taught Jazz-Combo and Big Band from 2005 to 2007 as a graduate assistant at the City College, New York. His composition Alanis was performed at Carnegie Hall in spring 2007. Since 2011 Peter is the artistic director of Backyard Jazz Orchestra, a Big Band project, which is initiated by Goethe Institut. Peter is an intensely touring musician, who performs with many bands with Musicians like: Clarence Penn, Rudi Mahall, Frank Möbus, Gene Calderazzo, Dan Weiss, Scott Reeves, Anthony Pinciotti.

MARQUE LOWENTHAL pianist was born in the Boston/USA. He is a Berlin resident since many years he is one of the best pianists in Germany. He played with Birelli Lagree, Tony Scott, Ernie Watts and many others. He is a Sony recording artist with Lyambiko Quartett with whom he has played over 500 concerts in Germany, Europe and The US.

Drummer/composer ANDREA MARCELLI moved to the USA in 1989, spending eight years in Los Angeles and four in New York City. He has resided in Berlin since 2001. Two of his tunes are included in both “The European Real Book“ and “The Digital Real Book part 2“. He is leading an active international musical life, performing with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gomez, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Markus Stockhausen, Palle Danielsson, John Patitucci, Mike Mainieri, Hiram Bullock, Frank Gambale, Andy Summers and others. He recorded many albums and two critical acclaimed Cds with legendary Major Label Verve/PolyGram.
John Kelman schreibt: „…Marcellis Kompositionen transzendieren simple Melodien, die den Zuhörer zu bekannten und unbekannten Plätzen entführen, versteckte Emotionen ans Licht bringen… Da ist die Reife des Konzeptes, die klare Vision, die ‚Beyond the Blue’ zu einer Art Markenzeichen Marcellis wird.“

LARS GÜHLCKE studierte Kontrabass am Konservatorium in Amsterdam und Hilversum. Langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit Ed Kröger (“What´s New“, “Movin´On“ und „Another Step“ bei Laika Records).  Seit 2 Jahren festes Mitglied von Inner Shape einer jungen Jazzformation um den Saxophonisten Roman Ott. CD-Produktion mit Inner Shape mit Kurt Rosenwinkel. Nach einem Aufenthalt in New York arbeitet er als Freelancer  in Berlin, seit 1999, und gibt Konzerte im In- und Ausland.  Unter anderen mit: Marianne Rosenberg, Scott Hamilton, Till Brönner, Johan Leijonhufvud, Torsten Goods.

„Autumn Leaves Jazz Week“ November 22nd-25th, four different exciting bands from the Berlin Jazz Scene will present their projects at the Schlot Jazz Club.
Opening the Week-end 22.11 the band „Mediterranean Fragments“ mixing colors and rhythms from Israel, Syria, Serbia and Italy featuring five wonderful musicians including Arik and Sigal Strauss with brothers Amr and Bilal Hammour. Fr. 23.11 a Tribute to the music of legendary Wayne Shorter featuring the dynamic and creative Ehwald/Lowenthal/Gühlcke/Marcelli Quartet.Sat. 24.11 finally the presentation of Andrea Marcelli’s new beautiful album „The Invisible Child“ with an experienced quintet featuring the two virtuoso Walter Gauchel and Ekkehard Wölk with Jonathan Robinson and Alexey Wagner.Closing night 25.11 the warm sound of Sardinian guitarist Giorgio Crobu Organ Trio, featuring great organist Tal Balshai on a vintage Hammond Organ.
