…Contemporary and Cinema meets Jazz.

Together again this powerful Jazz Quartet of creative soloists from Germany, Italy and Sweden. They will present a mixed program of interesting arrangements of famous Jazz Classics and Films, seasoned with some beautiful original compositions from their albums. Wölk and Marcelli are collaborating since 16 years, recording 8 albums together, bringing their music all over the world also the 4 musicians have been playing together since many years in different other projects. Their influences come also from European Classical Music, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis, Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter and Anton Jobim. Andrea Marcelli’s new album release is „The invisible Child“.

Join us at the magic 6th „Desire for Spring Jazz week“ 18. – 22. April during the Easter vacation at the Kunstfabrik Schlot.
Five different passionate journeys of Jazz dialogues, full of dynamics and rhythms. Accomplished international drummer/composer Andrea Marcelli will bring some of the best soloists of the Berlin Jazz scene with guests. Each evening a different story.
Opening event 18.04 the new album release „Closing the Circle“ of refined pianist Arik Strauss from Israel and his Trio + guest. On 19.04 a quartet proposing „Chet Baker favorite‘ songs“ with talented guest Bill Petry on trumpet and great pianist Reggie Moore. On 20.04 the powerful Ekkehard Wölk / Andrea Marcelli Quartet featuring virtuoso saxophonist Tobias Relenberg. On 21.04 a vintage Hammond Organ Trio with both talented Christian von der Goltz and guitarist Attila Muehl. Last concert on 22.04 a special quartet featuring groovy pianist Marque Lowenthal and intense guitarist Johan Leijonhufvud.
The soloist will bring their own colors representing and respecting different cultures and sensitivities, all together here in Berlin at Schlot!!

Der klassisch ausgebildete Pianist, Komponist und Arrangeur EKKEHARD WÖLK ist mit vielen seiner Jazz-Projekte seit Jahren auf renommierten Musikfestivals im In- und Ausland vertreten, u.a. beim Bachfest Leipzig, dem MDR Musiksommer, der European Jazz Night Krakow dem Kurt-Weill-Fest Dessau, dem International Jazz Festival Neu-Delhi und dem Mozartfest Würzburg.
Mit seinem Klaviertrio war Wölk u.a. beim International New Delhi Music Festival eingeladen sowie im Rahmen eines vom Goethe Institut St. Petersburg organisierten Gastspiels im Mariinsky Theater St. Petersburg Hall und im Palais Royale des Beaux Arts in Brüssel.
Viele seiner vielfältigen Eigenkompositionen und Arrangements sind im Rundfunk (RBB, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Deutschlandradio) im Laufe der letzten Jahre gesendet worden.

Drummer/composer ANDREA MARCELLI moved to the USA in 1989, spending eight years in Los Angeles and four in New York City. He has resided in Berlin since 2001. Two of his tunes are included in both “The European Real Book“ and “The Digital Real Book part 2“. He is leading an active international musical life, performing with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gomez, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Markus Stockhausen, Palle Danielsson,
John Patitucci, Mike Mainieri, Hiram Bullock, Frank Gambale, Bob Berg and others. He recorded many albums and two critical acclaimed with legendary Major Label Verve/PolyGram. His NEW album is „The Invisible Child“ (2018).
John Kelman schreibt: „…Marcellis Kompositionen transzendieren simple Melodien, die den Zuhörer zu bekannten und unbekannten Plätzen entführen, versteckte Emotionen ans Licht bringen… Da ist die Reife des Konzeptes, die klare Vision, die ‚Beyond the Blue’ zu einer Art Markenzeichen Marcellis wird.“

TOBIAS RELENBERG – Tenor Sax
Während des Studiums kam es zum Engagement in der NDR-BigBand und dem Bundesjazzorchesters. In der NDR-BigBand arbeitete er u.a. in Projekten mit Dino Saluzzi, Joe Pass, Mike Stern, Michael Gibbs, Wolfgang Dauner, Peter Herbolzheimer, Barbara Thomson zusammen und ging mit ihnen auf Tour. Neben den Konzerten lag der Schwerpunkt auf Studioarbeit für Radioproduktionen. 1994 Gewinn des Jazzpreis „Jazz in Schleswig-Holstein“, mit dem Kieler Quartett „Bits and Pieces“

ANDERS GROP – bass Living now in Berlin he is a Swedish original who has played with musicians from the group “Abba” and Niels Landgren. He is extremely active in the Berlin jazz Scene and teaches at the „Jazzschule“ since many years.
