Arik Strauss and his Jazz Trio, from Israel, will present their new album „Closing the circle“ with music that Arik composed since his arrival in Berlin.
in 2016. In his refined and passionate music Strauss brings together different styles of Jazz, Classical, Latin and modern. Joining him are his usual rhythm section with creative drummer Andrea Marcelli from Rome / Italy and solid bassist Jonathan Robinson from New Orleans, special guest delicate singer Sigal Adler-Strauss from Israel.

Join us at the magic 6th „Desire for Spring Jazz week“ 18. – 22. April during the Easter vacation at the Kunstfabrik Schlot.
Five different passionate journeys of Jazz dialogues, full of dynamics and rhythms. Accomplished international drummer/composer Andrea Marcelli will bring some of the best soloists of the Berlin Jazz scene with guests. Each evening a different story.
Opening event 18.04 the new album release „Closing the Circle“ of refined pianist Arik Strauss from Israel and his Trio + guest. On 19.04 a quartet proposing „Chet Baker favorite‘ songs“ with talented guest Bill Petry on trumpet and great pianist Reggie Moore. On 20.04 the powerful Ekkehard Wölk / Andrea Marcelli Quartet featuring virtuoso saxophonist Tobias Relenberg. On 21.04 a vintage Hammond Organ Trio with both talented Christian von der Goltz and guitarist Attila Muehl. Last concert on 22.04 a special quartet featuring groovy pianist Marque Lowenthal and intense guitarist Johan Leijonhufvud.
The soloist will bring their own colors representing and respecting different cultures and sensitivities, all together here in Berlin at Schlot!!

ARIK STRAUSS (born in Jerusalem / Israel) pianist, composer, arranger and music teacher. He performed in the USA, Japan, Europe and Israel. Strauss spent 12 years in New York where he studied with Jack Reilly and Richie Beirach and performed with top musicians and in leading jazz clubs, such as Birdland, New York, and Blue Note, Philadelphia. Strauss was the arranger of a tribute to Duke Ellington and worked with his son, Mercer Ellington.
In 2010 Strauss was chosen by Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sport for a six months‘ stay at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris as an artist resident, where he performed, recorded and wrote most of his last CD’s music.
Strauss is among the founders of a jazz department in the Givaataim conservatory where he was a teacher.

JONATHAN ROBINSON – bass
has enriched already countless albums and bands. He lived and worked in New Orleans, New York and he is a Berlin resident. He has performed with many artists including Jerry Bergonzi, Bob Moses, Matt Maneri, Archie Shepp, George Garzone, Rick Margitza, Marcus Belgrave, Jeff „Tain“ Watts, John Tchicai, David Gilmore, Daniel Carter, Onaje Alan Gumbs, Gene Bertoncini.

ANDREA MARCELLI (Rom) Schlagzeuger
Von 1989 bis 1997 lebt er in Los Angeles, danach vier Jahre in New York. Seit 2001 ist Marcelli in Berlin, wo er am Film „Good Bye Lenin“ mitwirkt und mehrere Jazzauszeichnungen erhaelt. Er hat bis jetzt etwa 190 eigene Kompositionen aufgenommen. Zwei seiner Kompositionen finden Eingang in die bedeutende Sammlung „The European Real Book“ und „The Digital Real Book part 2“.
Er spielt in den USA, Japan, Indien, Brasilien, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, all over Europe, Tunisia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique; Lebanon etc.
Mit: Wayne Shorter, Ekkehard Wölk, Don Menza, Bob Mintzer, Mike Stern, Bob Berg, Eddie Gomez, Allan Holdsworth, John Patitucci, David Liebman, Markus Stockhausen, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Frank Gambale, Hiram Bullock, Harold Land, and many others.
Als Bandleader veröffentlicht Marcelli vier Alben mit eigenen Kompositionen: Silent Will und Oneness (Verve/PolyGram/Polydor KK) + Beyond the Blue, Sundance (2012), Stories (2015), The Invisible Child (2018)
