Sketches of Jazz lead by the creative sound of saxophonist Dirk Engelhardt. Four experienced soloists, from different countries,
but in the Berlin Jazz scene, will join again for a very special evening, presenting a swinging and well balanced blend of famous Songs from the American Jazz Songbook with a Latin touch. With the great rhythm section featuring refined Swedish guitarist Johan Leijonhufvud, swinging bassist Robin Draganic and solid drummer Andrea Marcelli.

Odra, Poznan Jazzfair, Pori (FI), Fetya (Ruanda/Ostafrika),
Tanja-Jazzfestival Tanger (Marokko), Presov/Martin (SK), Viersen,
Baden-Baden, Hannover u.v.a.
Dirk Engelhardt spielte mit Musikern wie Albert Mangelsdorff, Karl
Berger, Uli Beckerhoff, Till Brönner, Ed Schuller, Larry Porter; mit
dem langjährigen Komponisten der Wim Wenders Filme Jürgen Knieper und mit Marianne Rosenberg in ihrem derzeitigen Jazz- und Chansonprojekt „I´m A Woman“; während eines dreijährigen Aufenthaltes in Paris mit Michel Graillier, Rene Urtreger, Jean-Francois Jenny Clark, Oliver Johnson, Lionel Belmondo und diversen nord-, west- und ostafrikanischen Musikern.

Johan Leijonhufvud
Ever since his several years of collaboration with the German star trumpeter Till Brönner, Johan is considered one of the most promising protagonists of contemporary jazz. He has put his name on the list of first-class jazz guitarists, not only as a sideman of Brönner and Nils Landgren but also as a bandleader of his own projects, and has often been associated with the tradition of greats like Joe Pass, Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery or John Scofield.

In the early nineties Johan Leijonhufvud was intensively working Malmö’s music scene, he organised sessions and linked up with other musicians. Ten years later he headed for Berlin, willing to explore the local jazz scene. Musically, Johan feels at home both in Malmö and in Berlin. Commuting between these two cities strongly influenced the soundscapes he combines in his compositions: The beautiful melancholy of Sweden meets the radiant variegation of the big city. He finds his inspiration listening to the music of Miles Davis and John Coltrane or hiking through the stunning loneliness of the Swedish countryside. Yet his playing is passionate, rich and funky.

ROBIN DRAGANIC one of the most requested bassists in Germany, was born in 1963 in Zagreb raised in Canada and studied at University in Montreal. In 1984 he had his first band with Ken Vandermark. He played in Russia and China and many other countries. Since 2003 he played over 500 concerts with the Quartet of singer Lyambiko, with Marque Löwenthal one of the most known Jazz bands in Germany and recorded for Sony BMG.
Since November 1997 Robin Draganic is leading the best known Jamsession
in Berlin. „Robin’s Nest“ at the ‚B-Flat Jazz Club‘ every Wednesday evening.

Drummer/composer ANDREA MARCELLI moved to the USA in 1989,
spending eight years in Los Angeles and four in New York City.
He has resided in Berlin since 2001. Two of his tunes are included in both
“The European Real Book“ and “The Digital Real Book part 2“. He is
leading an active international musical life, performing with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Bob Mintzer, Eddie Gomez, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Markus Stockhausen, Palle Danielsson, John Patitucci, Mike Mainieri, Hiram Bullock, Frank Gambale, Andy Summers and others. He recorded many albums and two critical acclaimed Cds with legendary Major Label Verve/PolyGram.

John Kelman schreibt:
„…Marcellis Kompositionen transzendieren simple Melodien, die den
Zuhörer zu bekannten und unbekannten Plätzen entführen, versteckte
Emotionen ans Licht bringen… Da ist die Reife des Konzeptes, die
klare Vision, die ‚Beyond the Blue’ zu einer Art Markenzeichen
Marcellis wird.“
