Contemporary and ECM Jazz
An international Quartet from the Berlin jazz scene, Influences from ECM, Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett.Together for a night of creative jazz, and music dialog. Soulful saxophonist Peter Ehwald, refined pianist Benedikt Jahnel, creative bassist Peter Nitsch and dynamic international drummer Andrea Marcelli.A special mix of original Jazz compositions from the band and famous jazz standards.Continuous music dialogues, grooves, passion, dynamics and colors of acoustic Jazz at his best.
PETER EHWALD – saxophones
studied at the music academies in Weimar and Köln, at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at City College New York. Rewarded with a prestigious DAAD scholarship he taught Jazz-Combo and Big Band from 2005 to 2007 as a graduate assistant at the City College,New York. His composition Alanis was performed at Carnegie Hall in spring 2007. Since 2011 Peter has been the artistic director of Backyard Jazz Orchestra, a Big Band project, which is initiated by Goethe Institut. Peter is an intensely touring musician, who performs with many bands with Musicians like: Clarence Penn, Rudi Mahall, Frank Möbus, Gene Calderazzo, Dan Weiss, Scott Reeves, Anthony Pinciotti.
BENEDIKT JAHNEL – piano

Bekannt wurde er einem breiteren Publikum als Pianist der Band Cyminology um die Vokalistin Cymin Samawathie. Doch daneben hat der heute 32-jährige Benedikt Jahnel an seiner eigenen Musik gefeilt. Erfahrungen aus Cyminology oder dem Quartett Max.bab helfen dem Diplom-Mathematiker beim „Ausbalancieren der Elemente“. PETER NITSCH – bass,
holds two Bachelors and a Master’s degree from some of the finest Conservatories in Europe and the USA (Conservatory of Amsterdam, Nuremberg University of Music and Manhattan School of Music, NY). After his active career as a musician in Europe (based in Amsterdam), Peter moved to New York and then to São Paulo (Brazil). Since April 2017 he has lived in Berlin. Peter worked together with world class musicians such as: Candy Dulfer, Bob Mintzer, Lee Konitz and John Clayton. He is active as a bassist in the jazz and classical music scene.
ANDREA MARCELLI (geboren, Rom) Schlagzeuger und Komponist.Von 1989 bis 1997 lebte er in Los Angeles, danach vier Jahre in New York. Seit 2001 ist Marcelli in Berlin, wo er am Film „Good Bye Lenin“ mitwirkte und mehrere Jazz-Auszeichnungen erhielt. Er hat bis jetzt etwa 190 eigene Kompositionen aufgenommen. Zwei seiner Kompositionen finden Eingang in die bedeutende Sammlung „The European Real Book“ und „The Digital Real Book Part 2“. Er spielt in den USA, Japan, Indien, Brasilien, all over Europe, Tunisia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique; Lebanon etc.
Mit: Wayne Shorter, Ekkehard Wölk, Don Menza, Bob Mintzer, Mike Stern, Bob Berg, Eddie Gomez, Allan Holdsworth, John Patitucci, David Liebman, Markus Stockhausen, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Frank Gambale, Hiram Bullock, Harold Land, Wolfgang Lackerschmid and many others.
Als Bandleader veröffentlicht Marcelli vier Alben mit eigenen Kompositionen: Silent Will und Oneness (Verve/PolyGram/Polydor KK) + Beyond the Blue, Sundance(2012), Stories (2015) The Invisible Child (2018)
