Jazz between the years: Petry / Porter / Casimir / Marcelli Quartet „Chet Baker‘ favorites tunes“
Bill Petry (tp), Larry Porter (p), Olaf Casimir (b), Andrea Marcelli (dr)

A charming evening dedicated to the jazz legend Chet Baker and some of the music that he loved to play. An acoustic quartet featuring young and talented Bill Petry on trumpet, great pianist Larry Porter who actually played with Chet Baker, warm bassist Olaf Casimir and experienced drummer Andrea Marcelli.

BILL PETRY – Trumpet

LARRY PORTER is an adept in the music of both East and West. As a jazz pianist, his playing pays homage to the history of the music, from ragtime through post-bop and into the future. Porter’s compositions, renditions, and improvisations portray multi-dimensional visionary soundscapes conveying the depth and breadth of emotions that encompass the human experience. He is also involved in projects integrating aspects of jazz and other Western music forms with Afghan, Central Asian, and Indian music.
Larry Porters jazz credentials are impeccable. His studies included stints at Eastman School of Music and Berklee College of Music. Since then he has lived and worked in New York City, Munich, Barcelona, and Berlin, where he currently lives. Over the years he has played with such major figures in the music as Thad Jones and Archie Shepp, including extended periods with Chet Baker and Art Farmer. Porter has also had wide-ranging work with such world-class singers as Sheila Jordan and Mark Murphy.

OLAF CASIMIR Kontrabass.
In seiner Vergangenheit spielte Olaf Casimir u.a. mit Künstlern wie Thomas Quasthoff, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Athur Blythe, Till Brönner, Yvonne Catterfeld,  Chico Freeman, Buddy de Franco, Lionel Hampton, Mercer Ellington, Idris Muhammed, Mark Murphy, Tal Farlow, Mundell Lowe, Charlie Bird, Herb Geller, Charlie Antolini, Nils Landgren, Tok Tok Tok u.v.a.m.

– Wayne Shorter wrote: „Andrea Marcelli’s music is vibrant and thought-provoking as today’s events. Andrea is such a chameleon. When I first heard his music, it struck me that he played drums, clarinet, percussion, keyboards and composed in a variety of styles that defied classification, moreover, his display of sensitivity and creative approach to the work produced.“
– John Kelman (www.allaboutjazz.com): „….Marcelli’s compositions transcend simple melody, transporting the listener to places known and unknown,  eliciting hidden emotions… Beyond the Blue represents something of a quantum leap for Marcelli as a player, but more notably as a writer. There’s a maturity of concept, a clarity of vision, that makes Beyond the Blue something of a watershed for Marcelli….“
