Contemporary Cuban music
The Cuban-German pianist and composer Leonardo Reyna (1985) was born in Havana into an intellectual family with roots in art and music. He began studying music at the age of five and received piano lessons from his mother, the pianist Alejandrina Reyna. Since then, the piano has been his main instrument and the best means of expression, withwhich he also comes to his compositions for classic and jazz ensembles, dance and film. Leonardo has been performing all over the world since1997, when he was a very young winner of the Claudio Arrau International Piano Competition Berlin-based active and one of the most outstanding pianists in Cubatoday, Leonardo Reyna has been recognized at more than fifteen international festivals and competitions including the best performance of the Cuban Music at the International Piano Festival in Havana. His interpretive passion stems from his Caribbean heritage and a solid education, which is based on the stylistic foundations of the European classical music. His compositions are shaped by his diverse influences with the important presence of Afro-Cuban musical elements that come from his roots. Leonardo Reyna acts as a musician on his passion for creating new things, and has intensified and expanded his artistic pursuit over the last few years in collaboration with contemporary and innovative artistic and audiovisual projects in Paris, Kiev, Berlin, Havana and the Netherlands. This is how the projects Classic Vibrations (2019), Cubainside a Piano (2020) and Wood Concerts (2020), whose performances include the integration of various artistic disciplines, came about.
