Contemporary Jazz and Hard Bop
A dynamic quartet of talented musicians from the prolific Berlin jazz scene coming from different countries like USA, Germany, Canada/Croatia and Italy/USA, together again to make a tribute to the wonderful Music of the legendary saxophonist/composer Wayne Shorter who recently passed aways. Andrea Marcelli collaborated with him in the ’90s and they will interpret creative arrangements of some of Wayne Shorter’s best Jazz Standards.Great Trumpet player Florian Manzel, with talented and renowned pianist Reggie Moore, swinging bassist Robin Draganic and passionate drummer Andrea Marcelli will play a wonderful jazz program from Contemporary Jazz, Hard Bop and Latin Jazz.
Based in Berlin, pianist REGGIE MOORE grew up in New York City, the son of Billy Moore, musician and arranger for the Jimmy Lunceford Orchestra. He has toured Japan, the United States and Europe, recorded a number of albums for and worked with such renowned jazz greats as Anita O’Day, Johnny Hartmann, Betty Carter, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Gary Bartz, Woody Shaw, Benny Golson and Kenny Burrell – to name just a few. Jazz critic Nat Hentoff described Reggie as having a “strongly propulsive beat, crispness of articulation, and emotional directness”.
Reggie had the honor of being an official Jazz Ambassador for the U.S. State Department, along with vocalist Joe Lee Wilson.
His unique art, which he himself calls “Communicable Music” and his dedicated teaching at the Jazz Institute Berlin/Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik, have been impacting the German jazz scene and students in Germany for the last 20 years.
Reggie has opened himself up to other cultures not just in his performances, but also in his musical styles. The true embodiment of the spirit behind cultural diplomacy, he is well-known for his commitment to using the power of his music to communicate with people from all over the globe, and the giving of this award was a fitting tribute to over fifty years of achievement, which the ICD hopes may long continue.

FLORIAN MENZEL – Als Trompeter wurde er 2007 mit dem „SkodaJazzPreis“ der deutschen Jazz-Föderation ausgezeichnet. 2009 belegte er den ersten Platz beim „Yamaha Trumpet Contest“. Während seines Studiums in Berlin wurde Menzel für sein außerordentliches Engagement auf musikalischer und sozialer Ebene mit dem „Savoy Award of Excellence 2011“ geehrt.Mit der Band The Major Minors erhielt er den „Deutschen Filmpreis in der Kategorie beste Filmmusik“ und den Preis „beste Filmmusik 2012“ vom Verband deutscher Filmkritiker. Weiterhin arbeitete er in der Dieter Michel Bigband, Atlanta Jazzband, WDR Bigband, der European Yamaha Bigband, dem Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, dem Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra, dem Sunday Night Orchestra oder Electro Deluxe und als Theatermusiker (u. a. Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatsoper Hannover). Er ist auch auf Alben von Stefan Schultze Large Ensemble, Malte Schillers Red Ballon, Reinhold Schmölzer & Orchest•ra•conteur, Laura Winkler, Jazzanova sowie mit Clueso, Die Fantastischen Vier, Matthias Schweighöfer und dem Soundtrack zu Babylon Berlin zu hören.Nach einer Ausbildung an der Glen Buschmann Jazzakademie Dortmund war er vier Jahre lang Jungstudent an der Musikhochschule Köln bei Andy Haderer.Er gehörte zum Jugendjazzorchester NRW und zum Bundesjazzorchester. Seit 2004 absolvierte er ein Studium am Jazz Institut Berlin bei Gerard Presencer und Malte Burba.Neben der akademischen Ausbildung absolvierte er Workshops bei Klaus Osterloh, Till Brönner und Illana Schapira-Marinescu.
ROBIN DRAGANIC one of the most requested bassists in Germany, was born in 1963 in Zagreb raised in Canada and studied at University in Montreal. In 1984 he had his first band with Ken Vandermark. He played in Russia and China and many other countries. Since 2003 he has played over 500 concerts with the Quartet of singer Lyambiko, with Marque Löwenthal one of the most known Jazz bands in Germany and recorded for Sony BMG.Since November 1997 Robin Draganic has been leading the best known Jam Session in Berlin. „Robin’s Nest“ at the ‚B-Flat Jazz Club‘ every Wednesday evening.
ANDREA MARCELLI (Rom) Schlagzeuger Von 1989 bis 1997 lebt er in Los Angeles, danach vier Jahre in New York.Seit 2001 ist Marcelli in Berlin, wo er am Film „Good Bye Lenin“ mitwirkt und mehrere Jazz auszeichnungen erhält. Er hat bis jetzt etwa 220 eigene Kompositionen aufgenommen. Zwei seiner Kompositionen finden Eingang in die bedeutende Sammlung „The European Real Book“ und „The Digital Real Book part 2“.Er spielt in den USA, Japan, Indien, Brasilien, Indonesien, all over Europe,Tunisia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique; Lebanon etc.Mit: Wayne Shorter, Ekkehard Wölk, Don Menza, Bob Mintzer, Mike Stern,Bob Berg, Eddie Gomez, Allan Holdsworth, John Patitucci, David Liebman, Markus Stockhausen, Ralph Towner, Eberhard Weber, Frank Gambale, Hiram Bullock, Harold Land, and many others.Als Bandleader veröffentlicht Marcelli vier Alben mit eigenen Kompositionen:Silent Will und Oneness (Verve/PolyGram/Polydor KK) + Beyond the Blue (2005) ,Sundance(2012), Stories (2015), The Invisible Child (2018)
