Jazz contemporary

Hugo Fernandez – guitar/composer
Fernandez is a Mexican well seasoned jazz guitarist that is always on the quest of an inspiration or a new sound.

With four albums to his credit, „OZEAN“ (Origin Records, Jun 2022) is the most recent album recorded in Berlin with his band New Grounds Quartet …Is the meeting of four musicians who develop a new vision of contemporary jazz. Four musicians who, independently, have a wide and eclectic background. Their repertoire is inspired by the rich heritage of jazz that they combine creatively with different musical genres, pieces that celebrate the interaction between people who share a passion for music. Equal parts energy and talent.

„Fernandez wants nothing more than to explore the unexplored possibilities of jazz. This is anything but a megalomaniacal enterprise. The New Grounds quartet brings together folk forms, elements of Western classical music and pop. The result is an avant-garde vision of jazz.“ – Haus der Kulturen der Welt | Berlin, Germany.

Born in Mexico, with stops at Berklee and the University of New Orleans before a decade in Madrid and now Berlin, Fernandez’s experiences through life in these vivid cultural capitals comes through his music.

CVs

Hugo Fernandez – Guitar/Composer Fernandez is a Mexican well-seasoned jazz guitarist that is always on the quest of an inspiration or a new sound. As a guitarrist, he started playing rock and pop professionally as teenager and in his 20s immersed completely into jazz music. Hugo’s compositions, may take us unexpectetely away from the “classic jazz sound”, blending different musical genres in a very creative and natural manner. The sound of his ensembles are very appealing, intimate and unique. “Our music has space to contribute ideas individually and to create collectively at the spot… all of these magical moments enhance the compositions”. His recent album “Ozean” with the berliner ensemble “New Grounds” will be released in the summer of 2022 by the American jazz label Origin Records (2022). He has three other albums under his belt as a composer and has participated in festivals and clubs in Mexico, Spain and is increasingly making a name for himself in the German jazz scene and the rest of Europe. He holds a bachelor’s degree in professional music from the Berklee College of Music. U.S.A. (1997) and a master’s degree in jazz studies from the University of New Orleans. U.S.A. (2005).

Concert tours through India, Morocco, Middle East, Cuba, Poland etc. Christoph Titz has been living in Berlin for 12 years and makes music that is characterized by very different influences. He is very open and always ready to be surprised. So it’s not surprising that his music is actually a collage of jazz-pop-rock-songwriting-afro, but also has house/club influences. In any case, it’s all music that Titz loves and puts together to create his very own sound.

Francesco Beccaro – Electric Bass
Francesco Beccaro is a Berlin based bass player, composer and educator. Francesco graduated form the Collective School of Music in New York and is one of the featured soloists in the Victor Wooten’s instructional DVD “Groove Workshop”.
