A charming evening dedicated to the jazz legend Chet Baker and some of the music that he loved to play. An acoustic quartet featuring young and talented Bill Petry on trumpet, refined pianist Johannes von Ballestrem, warm bassist Olaf Casimir and passionate drummer Andrea Marcelli.
BILL PETRY – Trumpet
„Bill Petrys warmer Sound und sein ehrliches, lyrisches Spiel sind unverkennbar von den Größen des West-Coast-Jazz inspiriert. Davon ausgehend hat der junge Trompeter seine ganz eigene, harmonisch raffinierte Sprache entwickelt, die weder auf komplizierte Phrasen noch auf Effekthascherei setzt. „Dass Till Brönner ihn als seinen talentiertesten Schüler bezeichnete, ist hinfällig, da er über diesen Status längst hinausgewachsen ist.“
CHRISTIAN von der GOLTZ 1959, Bremen. in 1995 he won a New York grant from the Berlin Council on Cultural Affairs and got private lessons with Kenny Werner. Christian von der Goltz has toured numerous countries through the Goethe Institute, including Turkey, Israel, Russia; Finnland; Estonia, Canada, France and Italy. He also performed with Danny Gottlieb, Eliot Zigmund, Till Brönner Since 1995 he is teacher at the Jazz Institute Berlin (formerly Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”).
OLAF CASIMIR Kontrabass. Nach seinem Studienaufenthalt in New York City 1989 bis 1990 folgten bis ins Jahr 1993 mehrere Europatourneen mit “Duke Ellington`s Sophisticated Ladies” u.a. mit Mercer Ellington. 1994 gewann Olaf Casimir beim internationalen Kontrabass Wettbewerb in Avignon den 1. Preis in der Sparte Jazz. 1995 Debütalbum der eigenen Band Bass Instinct“. Von 1997 bis 2009 lebte er in Hamburg und war dort freischaffend tätig für zahlreiche Produktionen am Deutschen Schauspielhaus sowie für diverse CD-, TV-, und Rundfunk-Produktionen. Seit 1997 ist er Bassist in der Gustav Peter Wöhler Band und von 2004 bis 2012 gehörte er zum festen Live- und Studio Ensemble von Annett Louisan. 2009 Umzug nach Berlin. Seit 2013 begleitet Olaf Casimir auch das Konzertprogramm “Wegen mir” von Gustav Peter Wöhler.
In seiner Vergangenheit spielte Olaf Casimir u.a. mit Künstlern wie Thomas Quasthoff, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Athur Blythe, Till Brönner, Yvonne Catterfeld, Chico Freeman, Buddy de Franco, Lionel Hampton, Mercer Ellington, Idris Muhammed, Mark Murphy, Tal Farlow, Mundell Lowe, Charlie Bird, Herb Geller, Charlie Antolini, Nils Landgren, Tok Tok Tok u.v.a.m.
Andrea Marcelli – Drummer/composer
born in Rome, Italy.
He moved to the USA in 1989 spending 8 years in Los Angeles and 4 in New York. He is, since 2001, resident in Berlin/Germany. He performed and/or recorded with Wayne Shorter, Don Menza, David Liebman, Bob Mintzer, Harold Land, Markus Stockhausen, Eddie Gomez, Mike Stern, Mitchel Forman, Allan Holdsworth, Bob Berg, John Patitucci, Eberhard Weber, Alphonso Johnson, Jeff Berlin, Palle Danielsson, Arild Anderson, Alan Pasqua, Bob Sheppard, Frank Gambale, Hiram Bullock, Andy Summers, Rick Margitza, and others. During his career he performed in USA, Japan, India, Brazil, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Tunisia, Italy, Germany, England, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Estonia, France, Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, Lebanon and others.
Andrea recorded many CDS and two acclaimed solo CDs for legendary Major Jazz Label VERVE/PolyGram with his original compositions.
He graduated in 1986 from the L. Refice Conservatory in Frosinone (Rome) in Classical Clarinet, Jazz Composition and Arrangement. Two of Andrea’s compositions are included in „The European Real Book“ and „The Digital Real Book part two“ by www.shermusic.com.
Andrea has more than 200 of his compositions recorded in CDs and
broadcasted world-wide.
Wayne Shorter wrote: „Andrea Marcelli’s music is vibrant and
thought-provoking as today’s events. Andrea is such a chameleon. When I first heard his music, it struck me that he played drums, clarinet, percussion, keyboards and composed in a variety of styles that defied classification, moreover, his display of sensitivity and creative approach to the work produced.“
